The occasion was organised to unify all of Accra’s learning centres under one umbrella.
Additionally, it was intended to help the students connect and form bonds with one another.
Mr. Daniel Anarfo Yin, President of DESA-UEW for Greater Accra, emphasised the importance of the event in building strong network across the centres in the region and enhancing learning.
Mr. Prosper Ahadzi, National Vice President of DESA-UEW, who represented the National Executive Committee, commended Mr Yin for the initiative.
He noted that participation in athletics is essential to a person’s life, particularly in terms of their health.
Mr. Worlanyo Afeku, National President of DESA-UEW, in his manifesto noted that due to the nature of the distance programme, students lack the opportunity to fraternize with each other across the country.
He said when given the nod, his administration together with the relevant stakeholders, would organise an annual inter-regional sports fiesta to be staged in Winneba.
The purpose is to give the students the opportunity to fraternize with each other and become acquainted with the University setting.
