The Vice- Chancellor of our great institution, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, the Dean of Students Affairs, the Principal of CODEL, our matriculants, ladies and gentlemen.
On behalf of the National Executive Committee, the National Council and the entire student body of the Distance Education Students’ Association (DESA), I am extremely happy to welcome you all to the matriculation ceremony of our esteemed institution where you will be pursuing a variety of programmes.
Let me use this opportunity to congratulate you my dear matriculants for gaining admission to pursue your academic dreams in this University.
This event is important as it marks the official enrollment of your admission into the University. Our university is not an exception to the rule that matriculation ceremonies represent significant turning points in the lives of academic institutions.
This ceremony provides an opportunity for freshmen and women who have gained admission to be officially inducted as Junior Members into the academically stimulating and socially exciting community of the University.
The ceremony is also significant because it offers the chance for you to pledge your full allegiance to the Authority of the University by taking the Matriculation Oath.
By taking this oath, you are pledging to subject yourself to all in whom authority has been vested in this Great Institution. This significant act indicates your commitment and willingness to obey all the rules and regulations of the University in order to have a fulfilling time while here.To truly honor yourselves and uphold the esteemed legacy of our institution, I urge you to embrace a mindset of intellectual rigor, resilience, and integrity. Engage fervently in the pursuit of knowledge, both inside and outside the classroom, for it is through intellectual curiosity and scholarly inquiry that we elevate ourselves and our institution to greater heights.
ADVICE TO MATRICULANTS
It is important that I talk to you briefly on excellence and discipline.
According to William Feather, “If we don’t discipline ourselves, the world will do it for us.” I hope you understand what that means? When you are disciplined, you will not spend 24 hours on social media.
When you are disciplined, you will not spend all your time engaging in unproductive activities but rather you will be able to strike the right balance between your academic life and social life.
As fresh students, it is expected that you abide by all the rules and regulations of this institution and participate in all its activities. You have to work hard in your studies to show why you were chosen out of thousands of applicants.
Remember that the will to win, the desire to succeed and the urge to reach your full potential are the keys that unlock the doors to your personal excellence.
Don’t forget to read your Bible and Qur’an and pray everyday to commit yourself into the hands of the Almighty God. Trust God and obey the rules of your faith.
God bless UEW
God bless DESA-UEW
God Bless Our Homeland Ghana and make her great and strong.
Thank you.
