The National Executive Committee of the Distance Education Students’ Association of the University of Education, Winneba, underwent a two-day intense capacity building in order to effectively carry out its duties.
The training focused on responsibilities and privileges of a student leader, making efficient use of time as a student leader, office correspondence, records keeping, and minute taking and writing, conferences and association week celebration, and DESA Constitution.
It also looked at general overview of of DESA budget, expenditure guidelines for student organisations, internal audit report findings, and tax obligations.
The executives were also taken through undergraduate handbook on rules and regulations- academic highlights, and undergraduate handbook-non academic highlights, and UEW Corporate Strategic Plan Objective: Improve on Professionalism and Administrative system.
Dr. Edinam Kakra Avoke, Dean of student Affairs, said the rationale for the orientation was to improve the quality of student governance, emphasising that the university cares deeply about the welfare of its students.
She stated that the objective was to train the national executive, who lead the student body, in financial administration and to expose them to general administrative procedures of the university.
Dr Avoke asked the executives to perform their duties with a high degree of professionalism, and to respect others as it is critical to fostering trust, reducing tension, and enhancing effectiveness.
The National President of DESA-UEW, Mr. Worlanyo Afeku, thanked management for the training and took advantage of the occasion to urge them to address all problems facing the students.
